Autumn is coming
I can't believe it's Labor day weekend? Where did the summer go? School has started and we had our 1st big football game last night.(unfortunately is got pretty much rained out)I've never been a big game watcher but my 2 oldest started going last year and now it's mandatory around here.It is fun to see all the kids (and parents!)and the way they paint themselves up with the school colors.This town has always been big on that team spirit stuff. This is my favorite time of the year and I usually start putting out my fall decorations around now.Well,ok truthfully I've already started but as I've been hopping around other blogs I see I'm not the only one that gets started early! I just love the warmth of the colors and all the homey smells.I've had this recipe for crock pot apple butter that I've wanted to try for a few years now I think I might give it a go this weekend.The hubby is working all day today and I have a ton of cleaning to do but it looks pretty easy.I want to get the house all straightened up(as straight as it gets anyway)before I start bringing all the fall stuff in from the garage.I can't wait! I actually saw a home in our neighborhood with pumpkins out on the porch already! FUN! September
When the goldenrod is yellow, And leaves are turning brown - Reluctantly the summer goes In a cloud of thistledown.
When squirrels are harvesting And birds in flight appear - By these autumn signs we know September days are here.
I'm a stay at home Christian mom of 7 kids ranging in age from 19 down to 6. I am truly a country girl at heart and hope to someday move to a small farm out in nowhere :) I love my family and my husband,I love to cook and try new recipes~mostly down home style food I ate growing up.
If you want a glimpse of Southern life,Come close and walk with me;I'll tell you all the simple things,That you are sure to see.You'll see mockingbirds and bumblebees,Magnolia blossoms and dogwood trees;
Caterpillars on the step,Wooden porches cleanly swept;Watermelons on the vine, Strong majestic Georgia pines Rocking chairs and front yard swingsJunebugs flying on a stringTurnip greens and hotcornbread,Coleslaw and barbecueFried okra, fried corn,fried green tomatoes,Fried pies and pickles too.
There's ice cold tea that 's syrupy sweet,And cool, green grass beneath your feet;Catfish nipping in the lake,And fresh young boys on the make.You'll see all these thingsAnd much, much more,In a way of life, that I adore.
